Fertile Ground Designs

To that end, Fertile Ground Designs has six objectives:

1.      TO EDUCATE communities about where food should come from.

2.      TO CREATE garden curriculum full of meaningful learning opportunities that span the subject areas.

3.      TO FOSTER healthy food and activity choices by involving communities in the growth of their own food.

4.      TO INSPIRE wonder at nature’s diversity and ingenuity.

5.      TO BUILD spaces that delight the senses, calm the tension and stress of everyday life, and promote imaginative play.

6.      TO GROW community around our shared values of food safety and sustainability.

These six objectives come from the seeds of ideas that have been germinating for many years.  To learn more about the history of Fertile Ground Designs read on...

Fertile Ground Designs was officially formed in the summer of 2011.  Prior to that date, Molly Wahl (the sole owner) gained valuable experience in teaching and administration in various non-profit settings.  With a BA in Sociology, a Masters in Teaching, and a teaching credential, Molly has the educational background needed to create superb curriculum.  Over the course of nine years, she has engineered countless units spanning the content spectrum from math and science to art and poetry. She has also written many garden-based instructional units as well as a number of units that teach time management and organizational skills to adolescents.

In recent years, Molly has shifted her focus to school gardens.  She has received a permaculture design certificate and is a Master Gardener for Contra Costa County.  She works primarily at an elementary school garden in El Cerrito- developing and maintaining the garden, designing curriculum and teaching classes.  In addition, she has consulted on other local garden projects and she is a member of the Growing West County School Gardens Collaborative.
